Between 1958 - 1964, the period that saw the experimental Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland falter, the Club maintained its tradition of service and fellowship.
FIRST ROTARY FOUNDATION AWARD
Zanobia Smith a local girl was the Club's forst Rotary Foundation awardee and lived in the U.S.A for one year of study.
CHARTER MEMBERS REDUCE IN NUMBER
By 1959 the only charter members remaining were Reg Croker, Bob Cotton, Gerry Lentin and John Longman.
KITWE SPONSORS
In 1959, again the club sponsored the Rotary Club of Chingola which was formed on 19th November. The Club also took a lead in a campaign to interest the District in providing literacy classes for African adults.
CLUB LINKS INTERNATIONALLY
In 1959 the target of a 400% Rotary Foundation Club had been achieved. In 1964, the Club was linked with the Rotary Club of Rawley and Huntington Beach in California, and in this same year, some 40 Rotarians from California toured Africa visiting the Copperbelt and many lasting friendships were cemented.
CLUB RECEIVES PRESIDENTIAL SUPPORT
Zambia's first President, Dr. K.D. Kaunda from the time of independence, supported Rotary in its efforts to serve the community. The attitude on the part of the former president was to encourage Rotarians particulary in their efforts to be of service and bring about racial harmony.
KITWE PROVIDES DG
It was fitting that Kitwe in 1964, was to provide John Longman as the District Governor for the year 1964 - 65 and hosted the 1965 District conference.
CLUB BUILDS
In 1965 the club in conjunction with the Zambia Society for the Afed commenced their project of supplyingfour houses in Chibuluma Township for the aged. The project was suceessfully completed in 1968.
INTERACT CLUBS
1965 also saw the formation if interact clubs at Kitwe Boy's High School, Mukuba Trust School and Chamboli Secondary School. The Same year the club produced a 350 foot 16 mm film depicting life in and around Kitwe.
